Energy conservation seems to be on many of people’s minds these days. In the ongoing search for renewable energy sources and ways to make the best use of the fuels that are available, some see natural gas as a viable option to meet our growing energy needs.

Natural gas is an efficient, eco-friendly, and also an economical source of energy. It is used and has been used in the past to heat buildings, produce electricity, and also been used in the production of raw materials such as plastics.

The demand for natural gas is predicted to rise by 67% through 2030 according to the International Energy Agency. As the demand for natural gas grows around the globe, energy providers will have to focus on ways to meet this rising need. New technological advances in the energy field will lead the way in helping us to not only meet the growing demand for natural gas but also help us to make the best use of it.

Some of the latest technologies that are being used to help us to get the most of this highly demanded product are technologies that deal with liquefied natural gas (LNG) and gas-to-liquids. The process of changing natural gas into liquid gas not only helps in transporting the gas to needed areas, but also opens up the way to create synthetic diesel fuels, lubricants, and naphtha.

Synthetic diesel fuel created by gas- to-liquid technology is more environmentally friendly and also is more efficient, thus giving higher performance and having a lesser impact on our planet. Diesel fuel created by GTL can be mixed with traditional diesel increasing the fuel supply that meets tight standards for air pollution.

Natural gas may not be the cure all for the worlds energy needs, but is definitely something that can help us going forward. As global demand for energy grows, and environmental standards tighten, natural gas could be the fuel that propels us into the future.
