Renewable energy is regularly in the news. It is also becoming one of the top focuses of countries around the world. There is little doubt the world news a form of energy that is readily accessible, affordable, and good for the environment. Solar power, wind power and even biofuels are in use across the globe.

In most countries, there use of renewable energy is gaining momentum, though many have yet to implement easily accessible methods of allowing their population to use it. Still, some countries are doing far better than others are. One of the best ways to know of the development of renewable energy is to look at where investors are putting their money. In other words, the following countries are the best places to invest in renewable energy because of the growth in the use of them.

Top of the list is the United States. In the U.S., onshore wind and solar energy are ranked at the highest level. In terms of what is currently in place, the U.S. ranks number two in wind energy capacity and in fourth place for installed solar energy. The U.S. ranks number one only because of the size and plentiful options located throughout the country.

Germany is in first place for their offshore wind. They also have a high means of using biomass and solar. According to reports, Germany is the country far in front of any other for solar and wind use currently. India has a good amount of onshore wind and infrastructure designed for renewable energy but is lacking in solar energy. However, India is also the leading country for using hydropower. In the U.K., the amount of current offshore wind energy ranks highest in the world.

In terms of cities, there are several around the world outshining (quite literally in some cases) the amount of available and usable renewable energies. In the United States, Oakland California runs at the top, followed by Sacramento, Portland, Boston and San Diego. In Oakland, 17 percent of the city's electricity comes from solar, wind and geothermal energy. In China, the city of Rizhao, "City of Sunshine" as it is called, is one of the world's best. Here, the city of three million people primarily has power by solar energy. Ninety-nine percent of houses in the central districts of the city use solar water heaters. Most rooftops have solar panels on them.

The Facts

*Did you know that enough sunlight hits the Earth in just one hour to provide the entire world's energy consumption needs for an entire year?

*One wind turbine is able to produce enough electricity for the use in up to 300 homes.

*Water is the most common form of used renewable energy and it is readily available.
