POWER-GEN Europe 2010 announces technical tours

London, 23 February 2010 - After the success of the technical tours in Germany last year, PennWell reveals three new site visits will be taking place on Monday 7th June in the Netherlands prior to POWER-GEN Europe and its associated shows Renewable Energy World Europe, POWERGRID Europe and Nuclear Power Europe.

Tour 1: Smart City Amsterdam (additional tour on Friday 11 June)
This tour shows the unique collaboration that has been happening between the inhabitants of Amsterdam and its businesses, research institutions and government authorities. It demonstrates how it’s possible to save energy now and in the future, with the ultimate and pertinent goal of reducing CO2 emissions.

Climate Street, a Sustainable Public Space Project within Smart City, is a holistic concept for sustainable inner city streets. It demonstrates the use of innovative technologies and the result of adapting residents’ behaviours, with the long-term focus of learning which approaches have the most potential to develop a sustainable energy solution for cities all over the world.

Tour 2: Flevo Combined-Cycle Power Plant
This plant is a brand new facility, having only been commissioned this year. It will operate with one of the highest levels of efficiency for a gas fired power plant, at over 59 per cent net. This tour will give delegates the opportunity to see a highly flexible operating facility, which produces low emissions and results in a limited impact on the local environment.

Tour 3: Amer Power Station
Amer is the largest cogeneration unit in the Netherlands and is a front runner in applying biomass co-combustion in units that were originally designed for coal application only. This tour complements the biomass conference track that is running at the event, and will really bring the developments in this field to life.

The tours are all running on 7 June and will last approximately five hours. The Smart City tour has already had great interest, so this will also be taking place on 11 June. Each tour costs €90 per person and have limited spaces available so interested delegates are advised to book early to secure their place.
