Charge your mobile phone the green way

Yahoo! My Web Scientists all over the world have been working on different ways to save energy. They have developed cars that use less fuel and solar energy collectors to produce electricity for the household. But a big problem for many green people is the fact that there arenīt many ways of being green while you are on the move. The big plus of all renewable energy gadgets have been the fact that they make the consumer independant.

The company nPower have found an interesting way of being independant of any electricity and being mobile to charge your mobile phone. Especially when charging our mobile phones we often leave the phone charging overnight which uses up even more electricity because of the fact that most mobile phones are fully charged after an hour.

The nPower Personal Energy Generator (PEG) that was presented at the Cebit computer exhibition in Hannover, Germany has shown that our mobile phones can be charged while we are mobile without us even noticing. The PEG is simply put into your pocket or elsewhere together with your mobile phone joint to the PEG system and by walking or running the PEG is shaked in just a way for it to produce electricity. nPower is not planning on stopping at mobile phones, in fact the company is wanting to change the way electricity is generated and used in general.

But there are even more fascinating ways to power your mobile phone, for example in 2008 Samsung was working on a mobile phone battery that actually ran on water. The water would produce hydrogen gas which would react with oxygen in the air to produce electricity. During tests Samsungs development section found that the charge would not require methanol and it would eventually last up to 10 hours. The phone was expected to reach markets around the world by 2010 but there is still no sign of it yet.

There are many other alternative charging methods being developed, but at the moment not many have reached the market. The Powermat is another interesting idea that lets people charge their mobile phones and their laptops aswell. The Powermat is a wireless, with a thin surface which enables devices that are placed upon it to be charged. The mat needs compatible batteries to be placed into the laptop and the battery has to be plugged into the mat which destroys the illusion of a completely wireless charging mat.

These are just some of the ideas that have been presented in the last few months that should make life better for mobile phone users. These developments have shown that the common known charging methods are now getting more and more competition from the alternative energy sector. This shows that the way we charge our mobile phones will change sooner than we think.
