Wind Agency Says EU Will do Well
It is a well known fact that Spain and Germany are the two leading European countries in the fight for the most Megawatts of solar power within each country. But although other countries such as the United Kingdom are not moving along as fast as they should, Europe as a whole is stil estimated to fulfill its renewable energy goals.
The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) released a report stating that with this progress 20 percent of the EU will be producing renewable energy. The report also stated that 13 0f the 27 EU members are likely to be able to keep up with their national goals whereas the other group of countries arenīt showing as much effort.
The EWEA said that these results do not give any reason to slow down, quite the opposite in fact. The EWEA representatives all agreed that even for those countries that are likely not to meet their goals, the changes that will be made in the effort to fulfill these goals will not be in vain. Countries such as Bulgaria, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Luxembourg and Malta have reported to not be able to fulfill their targets, but especially the governments of Bulgaria and Denmark have said that they are not giving up yet.
The 2009 Renewable Energy Directive required all countries to submit a National Action Plan to the European Commision by July 2010. This directive led to many countries taking radical measures to insure their countries becoming one of those to reach their renewable energy level needed.
Detailed reports from the leading countries Spain and Germany have reported that Spain will be exceeding its goal of 20 percent by 2, 7 percent and Germany will be exceeding its goal of 18 percent by 0,7 percent points. Other countries such as Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia and Sweden said that they are expecting to exceed their targets.
Italy is at the moment at the bottom of the renewable energy ranking, which is why the government has decided to import the renewable energy from non-EU countries surrounding it to reach the targets.
