Solar panel theft increases and so does the industry to protect them
All around the world the solar energy industry is growing increasingly without even pausing at the sight of the financial crisis. Renewable energy sources are definitely the future of energy tomorrow but sadly not everyone is interested in buying the new technology. In fact, numbers show that more and more people claim that there solar panels have been stolen from off their roofs.
Of course everywhere where people can find a nice opportunity to make some money by steeling there will always be people prepared to do so which is why the solar energy branch is having large movement when it comes to insurance. Solar energy panel owners are not taking much risks when they go about financing there future electricity supply and this is why the insurance companies are thriving.
But not only the insurance companies are making money from the theft taking place on roofs, companies that usually develop safety equipment for the household are now developing specially made security gear to protect the homeowners solar energy panels from theft. The security goes from lights that go on by movement all the way to alarm systems that automatically call the police when too much movement is taking place on the roof.
Another method of safety is a registration of each solar panel which would be similar to the registration of fire arms. The solar panels would each have a registration number burnt onto a specific point in form of a bar code and this way the police can swiftly find out who the original owner is and if he/she is missing any solar panels.
The thieves are often hoping to make fast money with the solar panels that are not only easy to remove from the roofs but also worth up to around one thousand dollars each. Schools seem to be a popular target for solar panel thieves due to the fact that the buildings are large and that in the middle of the night not many people are around the school buildings. The solar panels on the roofs over normal houses are often in the middle of a huge neighborhood with people likely to look out of the window at any time, not to mention the fact that the people inside the house could be alarmed the sound above their heads.
Fact is that while the thieves continue steeling, the industry to protect the solar energy systems will continue developing new ways of protecting them. Luckily the statistics show that the fact a customer could have his/her solar panels stolen does not seem to shrink the amount of buyers to the small percent of victims to solar panel theft.
