Wind energy has arrived on Lake Michigan

Yahoo! My Web The Grand Valley State University has developed a project to test wind turbines on Lake Michigan, but now the whole project has received a boost due to the federal grant of $1.4 million. In Muskagon the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center is planning to build a floating platform on the Great Lakes to carry a wind turbine and to test how effective the Lake Michigan is as a position for wind energy.

"We need to explore opportunities for renewable and alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and hydrogen for the future," Hoekstra explained on his Web site in a call for new federal energy policy. "Renewable energy will play a larger role in our national energy mix in coming years," said the U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra who enabled the Grant.

Due to the fact that wind energy is becoming more and more popular and the the systems themselves are becoming more effective due to development, wind energy has definetly found a strong role to play in future energy technology. Many projects like these are being planned and executed all over the world to develop the technologie and to collect important data which help to decide where to build which renewable energy system and why.
