RSPB Setting up Wind Energy To Keep Wildlife
The Institute for European Environmental Policy wrote a recent report that stated RSPB is suggesting in setting up new onshore wind farms, in the UK, that has an effective planning system that will not harm any wildlife.
RSPB wants to end the delays that are interfering with starting the wind farm project. RSPB is wanting the Government to assess quicker decisions to produce wind farms and in a way to protect the wildlife.
The RSPB is suggesting that there should be planning in identifying certain areas that could be a place to build the wind farms, that won’t be affecting any habitats such as sites that have rare birds or sea birds that are nesting.
The belief that RSPB has on adding more onshore wind farms, will have more of a counter effect on the climate change for habitat in the UK.
In 2007 wind turbines were under 2 percent of the UK’s electricity demand. The head of Climate Change Policy from RSPB, Ruth Davis stated that renewable energy is a urgent matter. With the climate changing, it has a threat to many types of habitat that are close to extinction. Davis goes on to add that they need help from the governement on guidance to where the wind farms can and should be built and how to deal with applications.
The charity also wants to see the effort in winning community support by offering a deal to those who live by a wind farm receiving a discount on their energy needs.
Department of Energy and Climate Change had a spokesman state that the Government is committed to increase the use of any renewable energy methods, whether it be offshore or onshore wind turbines. Britain has to increase the use of renewable energy by 15 percent by the year 2020.
In order for the UK to hit the EU targets, it is planning on develping aournd 7,000 newly built wind turbines. Some people, that are campaigning and the CPRE, is stating that Britain’s beautiful countryside will be taken away because of the development of the wind turbines.
