British Company Leading the Hydrogen Revolution in Europe
ITM Power, a British company, recently received some good news from the European Parliament. In early September, the EP adopted a proposal that will make it easier to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles to European countries.
ITM has experienced a major breakthrough that is expected to speed up acceptance and use of hydrogen-powered cars, trucks, vans, and buses. The British company has deciphered a way to allow users to produce their own hydrogen supply, at home and inexpensively. This alleviates the need to find a way to introduce hydrogen “filling stations” as part of each country’s infrastructure. This is truly exciting news!
It is estimated that the majority of daily commuter travel, to work or to school, is approximately 25 miles. Charging your vehicle overnight, at your home, would allow typical daily travel without producing any carbon dioxide emissions at all. For longer travel trips, you would have the option of switching your vehicle’s method of fuel use back to the original petrol. ITM Power has demonstrated the technology in use through a converted Ford Focus. It is possible, it can be done, and it can help make the air cleaner and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The idea that a “Home Refueling Station” can charge your car overnight so that typical travel the next day can be accommodated without any negative or adverse effects to the environment AND without incurring any additional cost to you is amazing and phenomenal. The design of ITM’s Home Refueling Station would use water and electricity to produce hydrogen. The electricity can be produced via a solar, wind, or wave source, or it can arrive through a domestic supply. Either way, the production of hydrogen to operate your vehicle will be extremely beneficial to the environment, and to your household. ITM has begun a limited test production run of its home refueling stations.
