TOPIC 'Solar Energy' on Jul 21, 2008 (CEST) Al Gore wants all energy to be renewable energy within 10 years In his book "An Inconvenient Truth" the former U.S. Vice President Al Gore describes the dangers of global warming and how global warming will effect all our lives. Now he goes one step further and calls for measures to stop climate change. With an ambitious plan he wants 100 percent of the energy in the United States to be renewable energy within 10 years. 100% green electricity in 10 years - is this really possible? Al Gore is working with an example: He compares the challenge of climate change with the first moon landing: "As President John F. Kennedy called upon our nation to take a man to the moon and bring him safely back again within 10 years, many people doubted whether this goal could ever be achieved" said Al Gore this week in Washington. "Eight years and two months later Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin entered the moon's surface." Al Gore made clear that this change in our energy production is needed fast because the survivial of the U.S. citizens and the whole humanity is at stake. Climate change is moving fast and the latest calculations of scientists has shown that climate change is coming faster that previously assumed. What Al Gore thinks is possible in the United States is of course also possible in Europe and throughout the world. Crucial to the 100-percent solar energy policy is mainly the political will. The nature provides all the energy we need to live and now it is time we use it. We have to invest in renewable energy and move away from the conventional energy sources. Both the democratic presidential candidate Barrack Obama and his republican opponent, McCain responded positively to Al Gore's proposal.
